Cooley’s Curse

Cooley’s Curse was written shortly after my daughter was born. Despite my best intentions to publish it, life raced by and Cooley’s Curse was shelved, with me promising to return to it “someday.”

Here I am, 20 years later in March 2020, sheltering in place with waaaaaay too much time on my hands. On a whim, I pulled Cooley’s Curse out, blew off the dust, and wondered if this story might be a fun escape for kids trapped at home with nothing but siblings, video games and Netflix for company. Do kids even read anymore? Here are a few chapters. Let me know your thoughts!

Book Flap

In the Cooley family, chocolate is forbidden. But on his 14th birthday, Chip Cooley disobeys the rule, triggering a reaction both exhilarating and terrifying. Will this new sixth sense help him… or hurt him? Chip finds out the spine-tingling truth as he goes on a fantastical journey that takes him to the grave and back. Along the way he gets unexpected help from the anti-social Goth Girl as they outwit a band of ruthless robbers, find the upside down City of Aerie, and have no way of returning home without jumping into the “Big Blue.” There, Chip faces his enemy inside a mind-bending, stomach-dropping tornado of a ride where only a whippet will save you.

On this adventure, Chip discovers power comes with a price, weird can be cool and no power is greater than family and friendship.
